Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is emerging as a powerful tool in the treatment of mental health conditions, providing relief for those who may not have responded to more traditional therapies. By harnessing the trance-inducing and pain-relieving properties of ketamine hydrochloride, individuals can access deeper emotional states, facilitating healing and personal growth.
The interest in psychedelic substances for mental health treatment is not new. For decades, researchers have studied compounds like psilocybin (associated with magic mushrooms) and MDMA (known from ecstasy) as alternatives or supplements to conventional talk therapy. The research on these substances, particularly ketamine, continues to yield promising results. In fact, the first recorded use of ketamine in mental health treatment dates back to 1973. Since then, an increasing body of research, along with personal testimonials, has shown ketamine to be effective in treating depression, anxiety, addiction, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
In 2019, ketamine became the first psychedelic drug approved by the FDA for the treatment of treatment-resistant depression. At Dream River Counseling (DRC), we utilize ketamine hydrochloride in oral or nasal forms to treat conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD, addiction, and other mental health challenges. Our approach is grounded in the protocols developed by the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), which emphasize the importance of preparatory sessions before ketamine treatment, guided sessions with a therapist during the treatment, and integration sessions afterward to help you solidify and maintain your progress.
Each KAP session at DRC lasts 90 minutes, ensuring that you have ample time to reconnect with your therapist before leaving our office. We also collaborate with Restorative Health, located in the same office building in Utah, to offer alternative ketamine treatments such as intramuscular (IM) or intravenous (IV) administration. For our Oregon clients, we can refer you to providers who offer these services or connect you with a Nurse Practitioner who can prescribe ketamine troches or nasal sprays. For more information, please call or text our Oregon office at 503-476-1171.
